Message from Rev. Melanie for September 2022

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

--Hebrews 10:24-25

Over these last few years, we have often felt kept apart by the need to stay healthy.  While the pandemic isn't over, as we move toward COVID being endemic we have been taking slow and careful steps to open back up and do more together.  We now have a bring-your-own lunch on the first Sunday of each month so that we can sit down and share a meal and conversation.  Many in the congregation have participated in community events like the Mountain Jam.  I hope to see you at the upcoming Firefighter's Barbecue.

I am hoping to have some new opportunities to get together to connect with one another, either on site at the church or on Zoom.  I'd like to see the reVision teams meet to revisit projects and activities, and please include me in these conversations!  I want to support the teams as we reach back into the community.

I'm planning to begin some new faith formation activities as well, including a group to reflect on and support each other in aging or caring for aging relatives and friends and later in the year an Advent series focused on spirituality.  If you are interested in these activities, and especially if you are interested in working with me to develop them, I invite you to contact me.

It is in spending time together, whether via Zoom and phone due to necessity or in the same space when we are able, that we best support and nurture each other and stir one another to love and good works.

On August 20 I had the joy and privilege of spending the day at the Mountain Jam listening to awesome music, conversing with interesting people, and supporting art programs in the local schools.  Many thanks to all the Skyland members and friends who contributed to the success of the event.  Much gratitude to Gerald, Anne, and Jackie who set up the system for handling donations and then collected money for meals, merchandise, and auction items all day, to Lynn, Patricia, Brian, Cheryl, Shannon, Larry, and many more who hung out at the Skyland booth talking with people about Skyland Church, the food pantry, and Fire Safe County Roads, to Paula for coordinating so much for the whole event, to Jan for showing up and pitching in wherever assistance was needed, and to all the other Skyland folk who were there and dropped in for conversation and to lend a hand.
