Food Pantry Update May 2022

 

Mission Board- May Report


The rains have come and gone and the food pantry is off the church porch. 
Now, all of the food is being taken away even quicker than before. 
People are hungry and Skyland is helping those in need - all ages from children to elders who are the working poor. 

The pandemic is still impacting folks in so many different ways. 
The high cost of living here, along with gas and food prices going up.
We are providing about 1,000 meals a month thanks to the 30 volunteers a month taking in the 3-5 deliveries a week on Weds, Thurs and Saturday. 
We are providing the necessities of life and this is God's work. 

West Valley Community Services is offering a time for mountain residents in 95033 to come and get other financial support services on the second Thursday of the month from 12 - 2 P.M.

Lots of the foods we get would have gone to landfills. 
Come visit us doing the work on a Wed. 11 A.M. - 1 P.M. and see how the job is done to bring in the fruits and vegetables and staples to feed our neighborhood.

The Mission Board meets the first Monday of each month by zoom at 7 P.M.

Finance Team Update August 2021

  The Finance Team added a new member, Jackie Seymour and a consultant, Terrie Landini to our team in June. In late June the Finance team met and agreed upon a process to make recommendations as to the management, use and investment of our monies for the benefit of our Skyland Church community. We divided into two sub-groups to research opportunities and to develop rules and policies as well as recommendations for the use of the monies. We will keep in mind the history of the Milberry fund and the Endowment. One sub-group is tasked with research on the Milberry Fund and Endowment Investments. The other sub-group is researching opportunities for the Board Designated Reserves. The Finance Team will include ESG filters (Environmental, Social, Governance) while researching the investment opportunities.
