Food Pantry Update April 2022

Missions Team Report for April 2022

We have such wonderful Food Pantry volunteers.  Skyland Community Church gives a BIG THANK YOU to all of them for their great help each week!  It takes a mountain.  There are almost 30 of us and we have names for over 100 individuals and families that we are feeding

This month we have some new learning to do.  And we have a potential wonderful new opportunity from West Valley Community Services to get more financial support for our mountain families using the pantry.
  • All food handling volunteers are completing the new Second Harvest Food Bank online food handling training on their website by April 10th.   Anyone interested? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bz9gv705BB
  • And now all of our refrigerators and freezers have new temperature logs and we are checking the temperatures on a daily basis.
  • Skyland Church now will maintain a client sign-up sheet in the pantry area.  A big thanks to Cheryl Clifford for keeping that list up to date on line.
  • Finally, WVCS staff will come every first Thursday from 12-2 for the month to meet with clients who need financial support.  Please tell anyone you see while filling the pantryWhile there, WVCS Staff will do an audit on the above practices for compliance.
Lynn Mitchell is keeping track of who has fulfilled this:)  Thanks Lynn!

For our volunteers there are 3 options for watching the video.
There are :
1. Friday evening, April 1st via Zoom at 7pm.   We can watch the video together via the same zoom session.  (see zoom link below)
 2. Sunday morning, April 3 after church service at 11:30 am in the sanctuary or Whitaker Hall.  We will have a monitor setup by Melanie so those who prefer to watch in person may do so.  Please wear your masks.
3. Or it's fine to view the video on your own before April 10th. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bz9gv705BB (It is 34 minutes.)

Things always look great at the pantry. Great work all!   Our goal is to keep things against the wall and off the floor so that outside groups can start to use the facility.
Lou McTamaney and the Trustees have drawn up plans to help us figure out how much space we will need for the delivery, distribution and storage of our 4-5 deliveries per week.  Wonderful work Lou!!
The Mission Board is discussing ways to "beautify" the pantry.   The 8x12 panels will be coming down soon when the rain stops and we are looking at doing a storage clean up so that we can store food in other locations.
We are considering a few ideas: adding a shed, updating the garage, adding a storage locker or painting the cabinets on the porch white with flowers as a Kids or Adult project.
If anyone has ideas, opinions or thoughts please reach out to Mission Board members:  Leslie Meehan, Cheryl Shyba, Bonnie Cloyd Cheryl Clifford or Shannon Edwards.
We meet at 7pm on the first Monday of the month.  Feel free to join us too.

Our mountain needs us!

Want to help?  We are looking for a volunteer to fill our Th. 11 am pickup at Mt. Bible Church on the 1st, 3rd and 5th week of the  month.  A big vehicle and the ability to lift 40 pounds is required for that.
I am looking for subs for Sat. April 2nd at 9:30 am and at 4pm.
Also one for Sun. April 3rd at 4pm.  Any volunteers?
