MOUNTAIN FOOD-SHARING

Skyland Church has been a great partner in the effort to provide food to those who need assistance in our community. They have a 24/7 pantry that is available to locals while also serving folks who work in the mountains but live somewhere else. They even reach 40 strawberry pickers from Watsonville in winter!  West Valley Community Services is a supplier of their goods, just like for us, in addition to a network of donors.

When they have surplus food, which is often, the Skyland food team led by Shannon Edwards shares this with us. The food is passed on to beneficiaries of the Thursday community food pantry which we host, as well as to our congregation on Sundays. Likewise, MBC shares food that we have an abundance of with the Skyland Church pantry. Through this food-sharing effort, we avoid food wastage and promote the flow of food to those who can benefit from this resource.

  The Finance Team added a new member, Jackie Seymour and a consultant, Terrie Landini to our team in June. In late June the Finance team met and agreed upon a process to make recommendations as to the management, use and investment of our monies for the benefit of our Skyland Church community. We divided into two sub-groups to research opportunities and to develop rules and policies as well as recommendations for the use of the monies. We will keep in mind the history of the Milberry fund and the Endowment. One sub-group is tasked with research on the Milberry Fund and Endowment Investments. The other sub-group is researching opportunities for the Board Designated Reserves. The Finance Team will include ESG filters (Environmental, Social, Governance) while researching the investment opportunities.
