These photographs portray the discoveries possible during the daily household unruliness that the COVID-19 SIP created for my family, and for so many dual working-parent households. These images share good kid messes and new freedom and discovery when we were forced to be, just around the house.

"Life  After A Neurological Event" video project.

This video was created as part of a Cabrillo College cross-departmental collaborative project with the Cabrillo Stroke and Disability Learning Center students and the Cabrillo college Art Photography students entitled, "Life After A Neurological Event." This kind of collaboration is known as a ‘PhotoVoice’ project and the core mission of a photo-voice project is the belief that 'everybody should have the opportunity to represent themselves and tell their own story.' The piece the students from both departments created is exactly as it sounds, photos and voices.

Students from the Stroke and Disability Learning Center were interviewed by San Jose State speech language pathology student interns and the interviews were then shared with the Art Photography department AP80S Special Studies students. Next, the AP students created photographs to represent the SDLC student’s experiences with neurological events.

The SDLC students then specifically chose the images that related to their experiences to use in the final video. A music student from the Music Department at Cabrillo, Noah Gray composed the music, both an emotional track and an uplifting track. An Art Photography student who is also a documentary filmmaker edited the video, Anna Newman.

The combined partnerships present in this project and the activities surrounding its creation, combined ethical photography and community participation to help deliver positive social change, a final product that everyone felt proud to view. A photo-voice project is as much about the process as it is about the end project, which we also LOVE!

Thanks to all involved in this amazing project experience.
