Mission Board Holiday updates

FOOD PANTRY AND GIVING TREE MERGE!
This was our busiest month at the Food Pantry. 
 
Forty- one Skyland Church and community members generously donated over $11,000 and we were able to give holiday financial support to 12 families and 21 young people at Loma Prieta School District and to 80 families who frequent our Food Pantry.
Thank you for caring about our mountain community and helping families have food, clothes and toys for Christmas.  So many people had stories to tell about their needs and many are living paycheck to paycheck. We gave gift cards to Target, Safeway, Grocery Outlet and Trader Joes this year and our neighbors were delighted. 
In addition to gift cards, this month we were able to give turkeys, pies, stuffing and white and sweet potatoes along with many greens to fill the tables of many families.  Over the holidays we got amazing donations from Second Harvest of Santa Cruz County (at St. Agustin's Catholic Church in Scott's Valley), Hunger at Home in  San Jose, West Valley Community Services (at Mt. Bible), Homeless Garden Project in Santa Cruz and from St. Julie Bianni's in San Jose and the UCC Campbell Church.  It truly takes a village!   

The pantry is overflowing with foods, but we can always use more toiletries, paper towels and toilet paper, soaps for body, hair, clothes and dishes and canned meats and breakfast foods.   We would love to have a volunteer to help Lynn Mitchell on Fridays if you have extra time.

Finance Team Update August 2021

  The Finance Team added a new member, Jackie Seymour and a consultant, Terrie Landini to our team in June. In late June the Finance team met and agreed upon a process to make recommendations as to the management, use and investment of our monies for the benefit of our Skyland Church community. We divided into two sub-groups to research opportunities and to develop rules and policies as well as recommendations for the use of the monies. We will keep in mind the history of the Milberry fund and the Endowment. One sub-group is tasked with research on the Milberry Fund and Endowment Investments. The other sub-group is researching opportunities for the Board Designated Reserves. The Finance Team will include ESG filters (Environmental, Social, Governance) while researching the investment opportunities. Missions Board Update September 2022

 Before After Change is in the air! You have probably noticed a few changes around the Food Pantry last month as we work to make the pantry integrate into Skyland's operations.  We are working to winterize the pantry next and hope we can do that by October before the rains come. Outside Pantry The front porch has been cleared and we are working to get the pantry winterized before the rains come.  There are two refrigerators and two metal shelves on the left front side of the church below the handicap ramp.  We chose this spot since it is the least sunny, easiest to access and would not require us to add a driveway between the church and the shed.  That area is too steep for disabled people to use.  New Shelving The two new metal shelves are up and running.
